THE BALTIMORE WALTZ
written by Paula Vogel
directed by Kate McManus
Winner of the Obie Award for Best New American Play
When a young woman is diagnosed with a mysterious new illness, she and her beloved brother flee to Europe in search of a cure — and to escape the uncertainty of the future. Their unfolding adventure becomes a whirlwind of Hitchcockian espionage, medical quackery, matching stuffed bunnies, and hedonistic pleasures.
After playwright Paula Vogel lost her brother to AIDS, she wrote this ambitious piece of theatre that, in the words of The New York Times, is "… a crazy-quilt patchwork of hyperventilating language, erotic jokes, movie kitsch, and medical nightmare… that spins before the audience in Viennese waltz time, replete with a dizzying fall.".
The Baltimore Waltz stands as a unique, darkly funny, yet deeply moving love letter to a brother gone too soon.
NOTE: This play is not appropriate for children. It contains explicit language, sexual portrayals, and mature themes.
