MANAGING DIRECTOR
Position Summary
The Managing Director should be a dynamic leader with the proven ability to manage all aspects of a non-profit performing arts organization. A successful Managing Director will have business, fundraising, communications, and marketing skills and be passionate about theatre and the impact of theatre on the community.
Reporting to the President of the Board of Directors, the Managing Director oversees all aspects of the organization, including fundraising, budgeting, financial management, marketing, and board relations. The Managing Director is responsible for transforming the Theatre’s artistic vision into practical initiatives that are financially sound and supported, and will work to galvanize the board, staff, and extended community behind them. The Managing Director collaborates with the Board in fulfilling its governance and fundraising functions. In addition, the Managing Director leads the Theatre staff, and facilitates interaction between staff and Board.
Responsibilities

Plan and manage all development and fundraising programs.

Curate, manage, and oversee the execution of the vision of the Theatre.

Represent and advocate for the Theatre in an effort to continually enhance its image, visibility, and influence across the community. This includes taking an active role in soliciting corporate and individual donations and sponsorships.

Oversee day-to-day business and marketing operations in partnership with Board Committees & Business Manager.

Create an annual budget and meet or exceed revenue goals, in partnership with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, including maximizing ticket sales.

Regularly attend board & committee meetings to provide updates on Theatre activities.

Manage staff and volunteers.

Duties
-
Fundraising
-
Work with Board of Directors to create development goals and manage fundraising activities.

Lead and oversee various fundraising activities such as individual cultivation and solicitation, institutional fundraising, grants, and special events.

Program Development and Delivery
-
Ensure high quality programming that aligns with the spirit of the Theatre’s mission.

Work with the artistic team to choose a program schedule that will allow the Theatre to achieve revenue and artistic goals.

Supervise and support production directors to ensure all programs meet artistic and budget goals.

With the Board, develop relationships with local arts organizations and seek opportunities for collaboration.

Administration and Operations

With Board, update, maintain, and execute Strategic Plan.

Grow and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including but not limited to donors, board members, members of the media, elected officials, audience members, students, parents, business/nonprofit leaders, and arts leaders.

Ensure appropriate metrics that indicate the organization’s future success is being set and tracked.

Coordinate scheduling and use of theatre.

Together with the Board, effectively promote Theatre productions by engaging in marketing and public relations activities via website, e-mail, social media, word-of-mouth, paid advertising, and media opportunities.

Participate in various board committees.

Manage the operation, maintenance, and security of the theatre’s physical plant to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable facility.

Financial

With the Finance Committee, manage the development and administration of the annual operating budget.

Attend Finance Committee meetings and provide financial reports to that committee and Board of Directors.

Preferred Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree.
-
Three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated non-profit leadership.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with board members, donors, and administrators.

Excellent verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and set personal deadlines.

Strong financial management skills and analytical abilities.
-
Arts administration experience.

Previous fundraising and/or grant writing experience.

Marketing/PR experience such as writing press releases, social media, graphic design.
Time Commitments
The Managing Director is a salaried position expected to work 40 hours per week, but will work a flexible schedule, often involving evening and weekend hours as dictated by the event, performance and board meeting schedules.
The salary range for this position is between $38,000 and $42,000.
