This workshop will focus on scene work. Participants may bring an individual monologue or a scene. If choosing to present a scene, at least two participants must be involved. We will explore the given circumstances with the goal of bringing greater clarity to each moment. A variety of tools will be used to enhance the moment before, personalization, objectives, point of view, and flow. Participants should read the play from which their material is taken and have a basic understanding of the story.

This workshop is open to artists of all experience levels, ages 16 and up.

WHEN: Sunday, July 13 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm

WHERE: The Florida Ballet (10131 Atlantic Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32225)

CLASS FEE: $10 + Eventbrite fee = $12.51 Total

NOTE: There is value to simply observing and absorbing! Attendees are welcome to learn from this workshop without performing a monologue or scene, should they so choose.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: WAYNE BENNETT

Wayne Bennett was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. He discovered a love for the arts at an early age, acting in school plays. When he wasn’t playing drums at church, he was usually rehearsing a scene. His passion for theatre catapulted his training at LaVilla School of the Arts as well as Douglas Anderson. After graduating high school, he attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he earned a B.F.A. in Acting. In 2015, he won the prestigious Helen Hayes Award for his role as Canewell in August Wilson's Seven Guitars (Signature Theatre, Washington, D.C.). He is a current student in the distinguished NYU Graduate Acting Program.

About Drew

ABOUT HOMECOMINGS WITH THE 5 & DIME

Our theatre community is strong and vibrant because of the many thousands of theatre artists who have contributed so much of themselves to make Jacksonville an extraordinary city for the performing arts. Many of these artists continue to work here and many artists are now working in different communities, further highlighting Jacksonville as an important and shared part of artistic journeys.

In this series, artists with ties to Jacksonville who are working nationally as theatre professionals come home to join and lead our local artistic community in explorations of our craft.
