LET ME DOWN EASY
Written by Anna Deveare Smith
What relationships do people have with their bodies? What happens when a body breaks down? What kind of healthcare do people receive? What keeps people alive? How much control do people have over their health? How do people face the realities of disease and dying? What happens when people die? There are as many answers to these questions as there are people in the world. Anna Deavere Smith uses the exact words of 20 different people as they speak to these hard questions. Professional athletes, a New Orleans doctor during Hurricane Katrina, a former supermodel, the mother of a young woman with AIDS, a minister and others: each person has a different perspective, different experiences, different feelings. Combined, they create a portrait of human struggle and how the human spirit faces some of life’s most difficult questions and moments.

CLYDE'S
Written by Lynn Nottage
Creating the perfect sandwich is the shared quest of the formerly incarcerated kitchen staff of Clyde’s, a truck stop cafe. Even as the shop’s mischievous owner tries to keep them under her thumb, the staffers are given purpose and permission to dream—finding that “sometimes a hero is more than a sandwich” (New York Times). This stirring, masterful play from the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage makes its Northeast Florida premiere at The 5 & Dime!

FOR PETER PAN ON HER 70TH BIRTHDAY
Written by Sarah Ruhl
When Ann thinks of her father, she immediately remembers playing Peter Pan in her hometown theater in Iowa, particularly when he used to bring her flowers after her performance. Her memory is jogged by the fact that she and her four siblings are in their father’s hospital room during his final moments. His death sparks a conversational wake that includes everything from arguments over politics to when each sibling realized that they grew up. A loving look at a family’s view of death, life and the allure of never growing up.

ASSASSINS
Written by Stephen Sondheim & John Weidman
A journey through the dark side of the American dream, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Tony-winning musical Assassins explores the lives of nine men and women who either killed (or tried to kill) one of the Presidents of the United States. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald and beyond, the stories of our country’s most successful and would-be assassins intersect in unexpected ways, creating a powerful, yet unnervingly funny look at some of the most shocking moments in US history.
