musical direction and choreography by ALEJANDRO RODRIGUEZ

A Celebration of the “Laughin’ kind of Lovin’ kind of Hurtin’ kind of Pain that comes from Being Human”

The verdant, earthy language of Zora Neale Hurston (Their Eyes Were Watching God) is animated through the music of the blues in three tales of love, revenge, and redemption. Adapted by George C. Wolfe and featuring musical narration composed by blues artist Chic Street Man, SPUNK brings to vivid life these remarkable short stories from the Harlem Renaissance.

DICK KEREKES & LEISLA SANSOM, eu Jacksonville, says:

CJ Fluharty playing a mean blues guitar provides all the music… Tarra Conner Jones who is Blues Speak Woman throughout all three stories, belts out songs with her glorious voice that enhances the story and really raises the roof of the Good Shepherd Church… To single out each individual excellence would be to merely restate the cast list. Everyone can sing and dance with great skill and all have great comic timing… Lee Hamby cast and directed the show, and did both to perfection
